My dear NYC podiatry family, I think we will deviate a bit from the normal format and take care of those who take care of us. I had the distinct pleasure and high honor to spend a few moments with some of the boys – and girls – in blue when I visited, met with, and spoke to the Bronx NYPD last week, offering support to the flat and not so flat feet that walk the beat every single day.
The first thing I learned is always open with a joke, even when talking to the police. Did you hear about the two peanuts who were walking in a bad neighborhood? (Stick around to the end of the blog for the punch line.)
Next we spoke about the importance of listening to the feet, no matter one’s chosen profession, and especially when working a job that demands long hours standing. Industrial boots are great at protecting the feet from external threats, but rather weak in supporting the feet, and by the end of a 10-12 hour shift, even police dogs are barking.
Custom orthotics can be a great addition to provide the comfort and support that steel toe and combat boots lack. And pain is not normal, whether your job requires hours at a desk, counter, table or on the mean streets of NYC. Listen to the feet, and take care of problems while they are small, rather than trying to reverse the pervasive effects of big problems – much like fighting crime.
A big thanks to all those who put themselves on the line to keep us safe and spend their days helping others – from the police, to first responders, FDNY and all military and public servants. Your local Bronx podiatrist has your back – and feet, and will do whatever we can to support you supporting us. Now about those parking tickets…
Oh, and the punchline: They were assaulted. Get it?
If you or your loved one is on their feet all day and is suffering from any sort of foot or ankle pain, contact us today and make an appointment at either our Manhattan or Bronx location.
